Kay Chambers Washington – Board Member

Kay Chambers Washington received her BS Degree in Sociology from Shaw University – Raleigh, North Carolina. She has over 30 years of experience working with individuals with Mental Health and Substance Use/Abuse Disorders. She possesses a genuine passion for helping others.

Ms. Washington owns/operates Washington Home, A licensed care home for youths and adults with disabilities. She spent six years at the North Carolina Correctional Center for Women due to some bad choices, but God made those choices to turn out to her good. While incarcerated she received her apprenticeship in Culinary Arts, Worked in Agriculture at North Carolina State University, Trained in Job Start and last but not least was allowed to interview for an 8 week documentary on the OWN channel called Released hosted by Oprah Winfrey of which she was selected to be in 7 out of 8 episodes. After being released Ms. Washington trained and was Certified as a Peer Support Specialist, of which she won the most Impact Award at the Peer Support Awards Ceremony

Ms. Washington also received certification as a Community Health Care Worker and Mental Health Technician. Ms. Washington’s incarceration gave desire and want to help others as well as individuals incarcerated. Ms. Washington also has 4 sons of which her youngest has intellectual disabilities. This enhances her desire and passion to continue to do the work she was called to do.
