volunteer law enforcement VLEOAThe Volunteer Law Enforcement Officer Alliance (VLEOA) Conference, hosted by the Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, DC, will include sessions on topics such as implicit bias training, race in policing, and recruitment and retention. The MPD is the primary law enforcement agency for the nation’s capital and has approximately 3,850 sworn police officers and 650 civilian employees. In the United States, volunteer officers—also called reserve, part-time, or auxiliary officers depending on location or position—made up about 16 percent of law enforcement from 2014 to 2015.
