bjaThe Pretrial Justice Institute and the Bureau of Justice Assistance are partnering to provide technical assistance for up to five local jurisdictions through the Smart Pretrial Initiative to implement evidence-based pretrial practices. There are six categories of technical assistance: containing the costs of the criminal justice system, procedural justice at first sight, detention hearings, minimizing technical violations and re-admission, enhancing and ensuring racial and ethnic equality, and community participation in public safety. Interested jurisdictions must apply by April 21, 2017 and decisions will be made by June 2, 2017.
