The Legal Center for Youth Justice—a national collaboration of the Juvenile Law Center, the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Education Law Center-PA, and the ABA Center on Children and the Law—will host a webinar exploring the intersection of education and the juvenile justice system for LGBTQ+ youth, including a discussion about how school climates push LGBTQ+ youth into the school-to-prison pipeline, the experiences of LGBTQ+ youth in juvenile justice facilities, and educational issues LGBTQ+ young people face when reentering their communities. A panel discussion will focus on advocacy tips for practitioners who work on behalf of LGBTQ+ students in schools and/or juvenile justice facilities, with speakers from organizations including the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Gender and Sexuality Clinic; Lambda Legal; and the National Center for Lesbian Rights.
