Holyoke Medical Center will use a state SHIFT grant to “enhance timely access to behavioral health care” for opioid-dependent individuals and help advance their treatment beyond avoidable costly stays in acute care settings. The $750,000 awarded to Holyoke Medical Center was the largest amount any one entity could be eligible for when the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission made $10 million in funding available a year ago. The money will be used to improve access to ongoing care outside of in-patient, as well as emergency room settings, for those with behavioral health issues or to address the health-related social needs of a targeted population seen in these settings.
